Foundation: Community Foundation of Broward

Ten nonprofit organizations in South Florida are getting a total of $300,000 in grants thanks to a new fund meant to fight discrimination in the LGBTQ community.

The Our Fund Foundation and the Community Foundation of Broward announced the recipients of the 2024 LGBTQ+ Social Justice & Equity Fund on Thursday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

"The LGBTQ+ community is in an extremely vulnerable position with continual attacks and political and social forces attempting to revive discriminatory policies," Our Fund Foundation President David Jobin said in a statement.

"The LGBTQ+ Social Justice & Equity Fund is one of many ways we're attempting to meet the moment thanks to the backing of supporters who understand the need for a meaningful philanthropic response at this critical time."

Among the recipients: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward, which will use the money to expand a mentoring program for LGBTQ+ youth; Black LGBTQ+ Liberation, which will use the money to help recruit and support LGBTQ+ youth in Broward County Public Schools; the SAVE Foundation, which will use the money to ensure LGBTQ+ people have "meaningful conversations with Broward residents to ensure they're ready to vote in November"; the Broward County Public Schools Education Quality Florida Institute, which will use the money to help recruit and support LGBTQ+ students in Broward County Public Schools
