Mackenzie Scott Is Radically Reshaping Philanthropy

MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated more than $2 billion to groups working on everything from climate change and affordable housing to early learning and women's equality, and she's not happy about it.

In a letter to the Giving Pledge site, Scott, who has pledged to give away 99% of her wealth by 2020, says she's "appalled" by the application process for grants, which can take years, reports the New York Times.

She says it can take up to six months for an organization to be approved, and she doesn't want to wait that long to start working with the group.
