The Rhode Island Foundation is offering up to $10,000 in grants to organizations that help the state's gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community, the Providence Journal reports.

The grants are available through the Equity Action Fund, which is open to all nonprofits in the state that serve the LGBTQ community.

"Requests should aim to support, encourage justice, and improve the lives of LGBTQ Rhode Islanders," the foundation's CEO says in a press release.

Last year, the foundation awarded more than a dozen grants totaling $2,500 to $10,000 to organizations including: Legal Advocates and Defenders, Meals on Wheels of RI, Newport Pride, Project Weber/RENEW, the Open Door Health clinic at the Rhode Island Public Health Foundation, Youth Pride Inc., and Sojourner House.
