Proampac and Sammi Join Forces for Sustainable Fiber-Based Packaging Innovation

The days of the plastic clam shell are over.

A company called Sammi has replaced the shell on its sandwiches with fiber-based packaging made from forest products, and the result is what ProAmpac calls a "groundbreaking collaboration," per a press release.

"Using fiber-based packaging from well-managed forests, Sammi is a pioneer in grab-and-go sandwiches by replacing rigid plastic clam shells, thereby reducing its packaging footprint," says Chad Murdock, president of ProAmpac's fiber business.

The company says the fiber-based MAP RAP Sandwich Wedge incorporates a carton board structure with a thin transparent film liner to optimize product preservation and visibility.

"The packaging also provides us with design and branding options that simply weren't available before, like devoting an entire panel to why sustainability is important," says Joel Simpler, founder of Sammi.

The wraps and sandwiches are available in six varieties, including the Italian, Smokehouse Turkey & White Cheddar, as well as the vegan Chick'n Salad.

They're also packed fresh using "fresh, high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients," Simpler says, per the Cincinnati Enquirer.
