Penn Alumni: Nine Honored at 2023 Alumni Award of Merit Gala

Ali Shapiro Cudby, author of Keep Your Customers and executive editor of the Animal Planet TV network and Gold Digest Magazine Group, started her career in marketing at the New York Times and worked her way up to CEO of Align Growth Strategies since 2014.

On Friday, the University of Pennsylvania bestowed its 2023 Award of Merit on Cudby, as well as four others: Richard David Feintuch, Stanley H.

Browne Dianis, Katherine Sachs, and Victor Anthony Scotti, Jr.

Dianis is a civil rights lawyer and voting rights expert who returned to Penn as a guest speaker on multiple occasions to share her message of hope, the Pennsylvania Gazette reports.

Her career has focused on areas of criminal justice, education, voting, policing, and immigration.

She has used the legal system to restore voting rights for people with felony convictions in Florida, represent displaced Hurricane victims in Louisiana, to stop politicians from engaging in voter suppression in Ohio, and to ensure equitable allocation of voting machines in Virginia.

Cudby earned her undergraduate degree from Penn's College of Arts and Sciences in 1991 and an MBA from the university's Wharton School in 1997.

She has been an active member of the Trustees' Council of Penn Women for more than 20 years, serves on the Penn Libraries Board
