Dane County: Recognizes 38 local entities as 2023 Climate Champions

Children's Community School in Madison, Wis., has been named a 2023 "Climate Champion" for its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The awardgiven out by Dane County, which includes the city of Mononais given to groups that make "significant efforts to address climate change," according to a press release from the county's Office of Energy and Climate Change.

"These Champions are an inspiration to their customers, their employees, and their peer organizations," says county executive Joe Parisi.

Children's Community School received a four-star rating in all three of the categories it was nominated in: building energy use, building design, and fleet operations.

The school is currently constructing an all-electric facility that will include solar arrays and energy-efficient lighting and insulation, according to the press release.

The city of Monona also received a four-star rating in the fleet category for its efforts to reduce its fuel use by 16% in the past year.

The other three Climate Champions this year: the Aldo Leopold Nature Center, C-Motive Technologies, and Zoe's Pizzeria.
