Senate Group'S 'Roadmap' Is a Call to Action on Ai Innovation

It's time for the US to get serious about regulating artificial intelligence, according to a new report from a bipartisan group of senators.

The report from the Bipartisan Senate AI Working Group, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, calls for increased federal spending on AI research and development, as well as stronger protections for workers and children, the Verge reports.

The group also wants to ensure that companies using artificial intelligence are "appropriately covered by existing laws," according to a press release.

Among other things, the report calls for more funding for AI research and development and for the government to work more closely with the private sector to ensure that jobs aren't displaced by advances in AI, the Washington Post reports.

The report also calls for better training for people using artificial intelligence.

"We need to make sure that our children are protected, that our jobs are protected, and that our elections are protected," Schumer says.
