When it comes to giving, Bill and Melinda Gates are no longer the world's most famous philanthropists.

Instead, they're among the world's most giving people, according to a ranking of the world's 100 most giving people based on donations of at least $1 million over the past three years.

The Gates Foundation's ranking is based on donations of at least $1 million from around the world, as well as the number of people who gave at least $1 million in the last three years, Forbes reports.
