A Chicago park named for one of the city's most notorious criminals is getting a major upgrade thanks to a $76,000 state grant.
The Friends of Malcolm X Park, a volunteer-run group that runs the park, says the state grant will go toward repairing the park's gazebo, bathrooms, and lighting, the Chicago Tribune reports.
"If we want to fight for our young people and build a real sense of public safety for all, we need to make more investments like this one," state Rep.
Rick Krajewski, a Democrat who represents the district that includes the park, said in a statement.
The group says the improvements will make the park more accessible to people of all ages.
