A Texas school district's efforts to help its students' mental health have earned it two prestigious national awards.
The George Washington Freedom Medals, given by the Freedoms Foundation, honor "the best of the American spirit on volunteerism by offering constructive solutions to contemporary problems," per CBS News.
The student-run Sanger ISD grocery store, for instance, has served more than 4,500 families and students since it opened in 2020.
Dr. Ann Hughes, the district's director of student intervention, was also awarded the National George Washington Freedom Medal for going "above and beyond the call of duty for America's youth," per CBS News.
