"It's been a long, long road to get to this point since that fateful day when not just us, but nearly 1,100 persons and families and homes got displaced," Mark Appelfeller, president of the homeowners association for the condominium complex in Louisville, Colo., tells the Denver Post.
Residents of the complex lost about a third of their homes in the Marshall Fire in December 2015.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday to mark the beginning of rebuilding, which will take between 12 and 15 months.
"About last weekend, I felt like a kid out of school on the last day of schoolit felt so good to finally get to that point," Appelfeller tells the Post.
