Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge awards $10K in grants to area nonprofits

Good news for kids in northern New York: They can give back.

The Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded $10,000 in grants to 10 nonprofit organizations in three counties as part of its Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge, which is open to all middle school students in the tri-county area, reports the Watertown Daily Times.

The foundation says it received 124 entries from students in 11 school districts in Jefferson, Lewis, and Lawrence counties.

They were asked to describe what makes their community great and then name a charitable organization that makes that community a better place.

"For many of these students, it may be their first experience with exploring the way civic engagement and contribution can be a meaningful part of a fulfilling life," says the foundation's executive director. Read the Entire Article
